Why does my Digital Camera with on board flash cast a ugly shadow on the backdrop behind my subject?
I use a Canon EOS D1000 with on board flash. I put my subject against a plain white background (huge velvet cloth) and take the picture holding camera in portrait shape. the shadow is only to the one side of the subject. I tried using jinbei 180 lights to eliminate the shadow but it does not work?
Think of the sun - when it is bright in a cloudless sky look at the shadows cast.
Shine a torch on something and look at the shadow.
Same thing from your flash. Harsh directional light will cast a harsh shadow.
Move the subject further from the background to soften the shadow a little or soften your flash by bouncing it or using something on the flash to soften and spread the light.
