Troubleshooting Tips for Solar Lighting
Purchasing solar lights, whether that is: solar address lights, solar chimes, or solar accent lights, is not only a sound investment because they are environmentally friendly – but solar lights are very durable and require little maintenance. However, solar lights are not completely impervious to accidents, especially when these lights are outdoors. Luckily, a majority of the time, it's a very simple fix. Here's a short guide for problems you might face with your solar lights:
"The light is very dim (or might not turn on at all), what's going on?"
The most important thing to consider with your solar lights is where to place them. If, after one day, your solar light doesn't work: don't panic! Did you place the light under a big tree? Is the light hiding in the shade for half the day? If your solar light does not receive proper lighting, it cannot perform to its full capacity. Move the light around to different locations around your home before assuming its broken. Also, it might be as simple as tilting the PV cells (your light meter) more towards the sun. Now, if you've owned the light for a long period of time, its probably time to check the battery.
"The light turns on during the day, and off at night. Should I move to Australia?
Well, that's always an option, but don't let your solar lights dictate that. Typically, when this occurs, it is because dirt or some other grime has interfered with the LDR (Light Dependent Resistor). If this is the case, you will need to take the light apart so you can clean and dry the LDR. See if this works first. If there are still issues, you might need to replace the part, but don't worry, you can purchase it at local hardware stores, and its relatively inexpensive.
"Okay, I did what you said… it still doesn't work. Now what?"
There's a good chance the LED bulb is broken. LED lights have long life spans, but will eventually corrode and break. The metallic leads at the end of the bulbs are very fragile, and once they break, you will need to replace the light. Make sure you know the warranty on the lights you purchased to see if you could get them replaced. Otherwise, you will need to go to your local hardware store to purchase a new light.

Anyone know how to use a Vivitar 35 light meter?
I recently found a Vivtar 35 light meter in my camera's case, but have no idea how to use it. It would be extremely helpful to me because I don't have the money or means to replace my camera's current dead light meter battery at the present moment and need a quick fix to my problem so I can achieve the photographs I am looking to take.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I should be pretty straight forward; set the ASA of the film you are using, aim the meter at the subject, press the activation button and then look at the reading. When you match the reading to the shutter speed and aperture index, you will see all the possible settings that will give you a proper exposure.
