Soft Softbox
HELP! softbox question!?
I am doing newborn, babies, maternity etc photography and I want a soft box. I really want this one http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/564656-REG/Westcott_2202_Apollo_Speedlight_Set_.html but I have no idea what else to get. I like this one because I can fold it up so it will take less room. I want a stand that can be very short and that can go about 7' tall. What other accessory's do I need to get? Thanks!
Most lightstands will work for you http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Lightstands/ci/5799/N/4289244488 . Other than that, you need a camera, a flash and a way to fire it remotely.

what's the difference between softbox and umbrella?
why can't we use softbox instead of umbrella or use umbrella instead of softbox? is the light produced by softbox softer and more defused? thanks

there are a number of umbrellas
shoot through umbrella
and reflective umbrellas
thren only mentions the reflective type. However shoot through umbrellas are very similar to soft boxes
soft boxes seals where the light exits. Umbrellas dont.
Therefore, softboxes seems to control the light better.
In practical application, there is very little diference between shootthrough umbrellas and softboxes. I personally prefer umbrellas because they are easier to set up and take down. on the otherhand, preparing a softbox is like wrestling with thick iron bars. Lots of twisting, bending and moaning before the softbox is erect.
