What accessories for a Nikon D5000 should i get? (eg Tripod, Lenses, bag ect...)?
Hi, my name's Matt and i'm 13. I'm beginning to outgrow my current compact camera, a Canon Powershot SX120, and need a camera to help me to take more advanced photos. I have looked around all the magazines for some time now, and found one i have my eye on. At the moment i am looking at a Nikon D5000 DSLR, and i'm wondering what accessories i should purchase with it. It comes with a standard 18-55mm lens. I would definitely like to buy a tripod, so all ideas on what tripod would be taken into account and would help greatly. I would be willing to spend between £30-60, so nothing too expensive or anything which will fall apart and give more camera shake than bare hands! Also another thing which is definite is a camera bag/case for this camera, so all ideas would be helpful. Ideas on any extra lenses or anything else essential would be great! Thanks in advance!
Sherpa tripods are good, and not too expensive. I have the sherpa 60 I think, and it is lightweight but still sturdy, coming in at about £80. However, tripods are one thing that not very many people know a lot about but these are the features you want:
-Spikes or shoes, preferably, you want feet with rubber shoes for indoor use, and spikes for outdoors. If you can't get both, get rubber shoes
-A spirit level built in helps with panoramas, landscapes and all sorts, especially on ships
-A head that has separate 3-dimensional movement controls: spin horizontally, look up/down and twist at an angle
-Bag hook. These help keep a lightweight tripod (which you do want, having carried a steel tripod around London for a week...) steady
-A carry bag. Overlooked but vital for comfortable use
For a bag, don't get a lowepro. They dominate the market with quite frankly shoddy bags. The construction lasts about five minutes.
As for lenses, it depends what you want to photograph. Get an 18-200mm zoom for general use if you can afford one. Great for just about everything, and not as big and heavy as a telephoto!
If you are going to be shooting in low light then get a fixed 50mm f1.8. Great fun, and only cost about £50.
For architecture, get a wide-angle of some kind. Great fun, but some lens-distortion correction software is really needed.
