DSLR External Flashes?

I need to know more about external flashes for dslrs. I don't really know anything, but i am interested. I have a canon eos rebel t1i. What would i need to say, have 2 external strobe lights for indoors (power supplies, the strobes, ttl?, wireless sync). Like i said i don't know anything about it so a good rundown would be great.

You can do that because the wire sync hooks up the the hot shoe on the camera. You can also
use light driven strobes like I have. These fire off of a flash on your camera, be it built in or external.
They're far less expensive but he won't work without an on board flash to sync with.
